The end of the universe - The big crunch.

The Qur'an had mentioned many things related to the creation of the universe which I discussed in the previous parts. Qur'an also makes it clear that there is an end to this universe. Today, there is no doubt in the scientific community that there will be an end to this universe. The scientists postulated different perspectives about how the universe will end. 

Theories about the end of the universe are

1.Big Freeze or heat death
2.Big Rip
3.Big Crunch
4.Big Bounce
5.Big Slurp
6.Cosmic uncertainty

According to today's scientific conclusions, the scientific community is considering the first possibility of a big freeze or heat death. The Big Freeze is a state in which all the stars in the ever-expanding universe burn up, leaving only black holes which emit Hawking radiations and eventually disappear and the universe reaching absolute zero temperature. 

The Big Crunch is another possibility that the scientific community is discussing. Simply put, it is the exact opposite of what happened after the Big Bang. The expansion of this now expanding universe stops and goes in the opposite direction; Or the universe begins to shrink and finally reaches a single point - singularity. Then another big bang happens. Another new universe will be created. Scientists believe that this is unlikely to happen because today the universe is in a state of expansion. Acceleration of expansion does not appear to decrease but increases.

Let us now see what the Holy Qur'an says about the end of the universe. 

Al-Anbiya 21: 104

يَوْمَ نَطْوِى ٱلسَّمَآءَ كَطَىِّ ٱلسِّجِلِّ لِلْكُتُبِ ۚ كَمَا بَدَأْنَآ أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍۢ نُّعِيدُهُۥ ۚ وَعْدًا عَلَيْنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ
"The Day that We roll up the heavens like a scroll rolled up for books (completed),- even as We produced the first creation, so shall We produce a new one: a promise We have undertaken: truly shall We fulfil it."

It is clear from the statement of the Qur'an that the end of this world will be a big crunch. Allah has stated that the universe will be rolled up like the scrolls of a book. Or the expansion of this expanding world will stop and the universe will begin to shrink. Then the universe shrinks and ends in a singularity. Then the new universe will be created a second time, just as the first one was created. Or another Big Bang at the end of the Big Crunch.

That is exactly what the Qur'an says.

 ۚ كَمَا بَدَأْنَآ أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍۢ نُّعِيدُهُۥ
 
"as We produced the first creation, so shall We produce a new one."

Qur'an also stated in surah Ibrahim 14:48

يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ ٱلْأَرْضُ غَيْرَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ ۖ وَبَرَزُوا۟ لِلَّهِ ٱلْوَٰحِدِ ٱلْقَهَّارِ
On the day when the earth shall be changed into a different earth, and the heavens (as well), and they shall come forth before Allah, the One, the Supreme.
(Surat:14, Verse:48)

After the Big Crunch, a new universe will be created by another Big Bang. Allah will resurrect all the human beings in that new earth and that's the judgement day. 

Even though, today most of the scientists believe that big freeze will be the fate of universe rather than the possibility of the big crunch. The Qur'an supports the big crunch theory. This is also another example for which the science didn't prove yet but the Qur'an stated it clearly before it's proven by science.

Shape of universe is flat !

From the Qur'an's statement, that the 7 different universes are stacked one on top of the other, we can understand that the shape of the universes explained by the Qur'an is flat. All the observational experiments known today prove that the universe is flat. Observations by NASA's Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP), the BOOMERanG experiment (Balloon Observations of Millimetric Extragalactic Radiation and Geophysics, and the European Space Agency's Planck space observatory have all proved that the universe is flat. We need to understand that all these observations took place after AD 2000. Multiverse concept is explained in Qur'an

In the previous parts 1-3 we have seen the scientific facts like the creation of the universe out of nothing- the big bang, the concept of the whole universe was joined together in the initial stage and the universe was in the state of a smoke or fog in the beginning from which the stars began to form.
